about
Mel Sosa is an East Coast based photographer inspired by the camera’s storytelling abilities. She has a Photographic and Imaging Arts BFA (Advertising Concentration) and a minor in Entrepreneurship from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Mel’s work can be described as environmental portraiture that is warm, natural, and personal. In her work, she prioritizes authenticity to ensure her subjects do not feel misrepresented. Valuing simplicity and human connection allows the subjects to feel comfortable and at ease. As the daughter of Cuban immigrants, she advocates for those whose stories may otherwise never be told. Her family’s commitment to a better life is the driving force for her imagery and it pushes her to work hard each and every day. Mel’s work has been displayed at the Road to Resilience Gala at the Memorial Art Gallery and she strives to make more work like this in the future. Her work has also been published on Homes.com and she has captured many stories for WROC News that have been published on Rochesterfirst.com
